One of Cork's favourite airline, would have been Air Southwest. Air Southwest was a British airline, operating regional services from Cork to Newquay in Cornwall & Plymouth in Devon. Air Southwest was founded in 2003 and sadly ceased operations on 30 September 2011. Air Southwest is really missed from Cork and now Cork lacks in range of scheduled airlines serving the airport, the main ones now being Aer Lingus, Aer Lingus Regional and Ryanair, with Jet2.com on Monday & Friday. Air Southwest operated a fleet of 5 Bombardier Dash 8-311 aircraft. In 2010, Air Southwest was put up for sale and was bought by Eastern Airways another British airline. Sadly, this only lasted about 13 months and in June 2011, it was announced that Air Southwest was ceasing operations on 30 September. Air Southwest used to operate nearly every from Cork at one stage, but from March 2011, with passenger numbers declining on both Irish services, Cork & Dublin. Cork services were cut from 5 per week to 3 and Dublin from 6 per week to 4. Services to/from Cork operated like this; Plymouth - Newquay - Cork - Newquay - Plymouth. Here's a couple of pictures of Air Southwest at Cork Airport. Air Southwest completely pulled out of Newquay in July 2011 ahead of the closure in September.
