BMI Baby

BMI Baby another favourite for spotters at Cork Airport. BMI Baby operated a number of routes from Cork to the UK in the 8 years it operated to/from Cork. Routes that BMI Baby operated from Cork were Birmingham, Cardiff, Durham Tees Valley, & East Midlands, the last route to operate was Manchester and that ceased in April 2010. BMI Baby was founded on 24 January 2002, started operations on 22 March 2002 and ceased operations on 9 September 2012. BMI Baby had an all Boeing fleet with Boeing 737-300's and 737-500's. Before the airline's closure it operated 12 Boeing 737-300 and 2 Boeing 737-500 aircraft bringing it to a total of 14 aircraft. BMI Baby had bases in most UK Airports, that was Belfast City, Birmingham, Cardiff, Durham Tees Valley, East Midlands & Manchester. In 2006 the airline closed the Durham base due to insufficiant passenger numbers. The bases in Cardiff and Manchester were closed in 2011 to make was for the expansion of the East Midlands base and to open a new base at Belfast City, however the base at Belfast City, didn't even last 12 months, and closed in June 2012. Birmingham & East Midlands were the last base to close and they closed with the airline on 9 September. The last BMI Baby flight to operate was BMI Baby WW5330 from Málaga to East Midlands.
